Monsieur Kim Restaurant sits quietly on Rue Tramassac in Lyon’s historic 5th arrondissement, offering a focused take on Korean cuisine that feels both genuine and approachable. This is a full-service dining spot where the atmosphere leans warm and informal, creating a welcoming backdrop for anyone curious about exploring Korea’s rich flavors without leaving the heart of Lyon.

The space is humble rather than flashy, fitting well with the surrounding Old Lyon vibe, where narrow streets and aged façades encourage a slower pace. Guests typically arrive for dinner, often after a day spent wandering the cobbled streets or visiting nearby landmarks. It’s wise to reserve, especially on weekends, given the manageable but noticeable demand and the restaurant’s policy around timed seating.

On the menu, dishes highlight traditional Korean heartiness with a contemporary touch — think comforting, soul-soothing soups like La Soupe de L'âme de Busan as well as well-marinated meats such as Bulgogi and chicken prepared with a variety of seasonings. Signature desserts you won’t want to miss include the Gâteau de Riz and an intriguing roasted soy bean tiramisu that adds a creative local spin to a classic.

The overall portion sizes tend toward the modest side, making this a better choice for diners who enjoy tasting a variety of dishes rather than a single large entree. The accompanying homemade pickles, like radish varieties, provide a crisp, refreshing counterpoint to richer flavors, suggesting thoughtfulness to balance and contrast.

Staff interaction flows efficiently, though some diners have noted a brisk pace at ordering times, likely due to a structured seating plan. Despite this, the service retains a friendly tone, maintaining the restaurant’s down-to-earth feel. The spice level is moderate but can cater to those who like a bit of heat without overwhelming the palate.

This restaurant fits best for those who appreciate a genuine Korean meal in a cozy setting—locals and visitors who enjoy a blend of authentic tastes, from bold to subtle, and who value a relaxed yet attentive atmosphere. Evening visits are ideal, when the restaurant fills with the quiet buzz of conversation and the surrounding streets calm into their evening rhythm.

Such a pleasure. Loved the taste. Only that the portions are very small. Make sure to reserve tables. May be will come back another time.

Delicious food, great experience! We had 2 starters 2 mains and a dessert - all were fantastic, each one had its own unique flavour profile. We know Korean food really well and were so pleased with everything! Special shout out to the roasted soy bean tiramisu, it was incredible! Big thank you to the team

When I say each food item on the menu here does not miss, I am not exaggerating. Everything here was delicious, from the side dishes, the main, and to the dessert. Go take a visit at this warm and humble spot in Old Lyon and you will leave wishing for more.

We had a great dinner, the food was incredible. The only thing to remark is that we were a bit stressed by the waiter to order fast because of two time slots for dinner. But we would still definitely come back and recommend it.

The food was really delicious, great service, nice ambiance. Just make sure you don't stay too long or you'll get kicked out for the second service.

We were sent here as a MUST STOP by the amazing Oscar at The Nook Bar around the corner. Cute & cozy little restaurant with amazing smells as you walk in. Menu also in English if you don't have a translator app. The pork hot pot was fantastic. Make your own little rolls bursting with fresh amazing flavors & just wow. The spicy fried chicken everybody raves about ? Ya, it's that good & no, not too spicy. When your rolls are done, you add the rice to the pot & finish that amazing sauce. Everything was amazing & paired with a nice Alsace Riesling. We did 2 entrees & app version of the chicken & that was plenty. Every box checked for awesome.

A really good Asian/Korean restaurant in line with all the rates here. All food we had are made in fresh ingredients and the tastes are really nice. The only point disappoints me is the soup as it’s a bit too light as a Korean porc-bone based soup, which the texture should be thicker with profound taste. Not exactly the same as the soup of ramen but I expected it to be more. I could still taste the savor but well, if you are looking for a more traditional Korean soup, this may not be it. The vegan stuffed fried green pepper is really amazing with fresh great taste. Strongly recommend it! The sauce of fried chicken is great too though the sauce is a bit sweet for me but I guess that fits French taste. For the dessert, I would recommend the icy rice-ball (better than Tiramisu) with classic red bean paste finish the 100% Asian menu! Bon appétit!
